Despite being a journalist working for the BBC, he doesn't give you the typical doom and gloom story of Africa that you might expect from a Westerner. While his account of Africa is realistic and balanced, it is also hopeful. I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants to gain a unique overview of some of the most important developments on the African continent during the s and s.
