Since most of the feminists were upper class white women, they felt that only they should be equal to men. Two more examples include, the Second Great Awakening, and abolition because they both influenced all the people, but favored rich Caucasians.

The reformer feminists of the 19th century were mostly upperclass women, who were well educated for their time. This was because without an education, one does not know what else is out there. Therefore, because many of these upperclass women were prejudice themselves, they disconcerned the African American, and lower class women from their argument for equality.

Furthermore, the lower class women were to busy working to argue in their defense, and the African American women had no voice because of their skin color. This meant that the reform movement of the feminists did not follow democratic ideals because it did not create equality for all women.

The Second Great Awakening does not support the statement that reform movements sought to expand democratic ideals because the Second Great Awakening separated the upper classes from the lower classes. The more educated, aka the richer classes, supported Deism, because of the education the received.

Since only the rich could send their children to good schools only the rich supported Deism. The poorer classes however, supported religions such as Baptism, because it was all they knew.
